Video: Ole Miss Men’s Basketball Falls To Florida

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – Senior Stefan Moody recorded his 12th straight 20-point game with 22 points, and junior Sebastian Saiz added 17 points and 6 boards, but Ole Miss dropped an SEC home game 80-71 to Florida Saturday.

KeVaughn Allen scored 27 points, 20 in a the first half, as Florida knocked off the Rebels, who were previously unbeated at The Pavilion.

“The one guy that you can’t leave is the one guy that really took complete control of the game,” said Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy. “KeVaughn Allen is a good player. We made an emphasis all week that this is the one guy that you cannot let get going because if he gets going, he’s capable of putting up huge numbers. I think we all witnessed that.”

Dorian Finney-Smith scored 17 points, Kasey Hill had 11 and John Egbunu added 10 for the Gators (11-6, 3-2 Southeastern Conference), earning their first league road win in three starts. Allen finished 9 of 11 from the field, 6 of 7 from 3-point range and added six rebounds.

Moody, the SEC’s leading scorer, paced the Rebels (12-5, 2-3) with 22 points, his 12-straight game with 20-plus points. Saiz and Rasheed Brooks added 17 and 14 points, respectively.

The Gators took control early, racing to a 15-2 lead in the opening four minutes. Florida held a 49-30 halftime advantage and the Rebels didn’t close to within double digits until the final minute.

Florida won the boards, out rebounding the Rebels 39-29. The Gators were 24 of 49 (49 percent) from the field, including 11 of 20 from 3-point range. Ole Miss was 25 of 56 (45 percent) but struggled from 3-point range, hitting 5 of 20 (25 percent).
