Prewitt, Jackson Named to AP All-America Team

NEW YORK (WCBI/AP) — The Associated Press released its 2013 All-American team on Tuesday, and a plethora of Southeastern Conference players were selected to the first, second and third teams.

A pair of offensive tackles highlighted the SEC’s first team presence, as Texas A&M’s Jake Matthews and Alabama’s Cyrus Kouandjio were chosen to bookend the offensive line. Joining them on the first team offense is sophomore receiver Mike Evans from Texas A&M, who led the SEC in receiving in 2013.

Junior safety Cody Prewitt was named to the AP All-America first team on Tuesday.

The first team defense features a trio of SEC standouts, led by the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year at defensive end, Michael Sam of Missouri. C.J. Mosley, Alabama’s excellent linebacker and Butkus Award Winner, is one of the first team linebackers while Ole Miss safety Cody Prewitt rounds out the back end at safety.

The second team offense is led by Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, who is joined by fellow Heisman finalists Tre Mason of Auburn at running back. Gabe Jackson, a senior from Mississippi State, also comes in at guard for the second team. Defensively, South Carolina tackle Kelcy Quarles, Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and TAMU punter Drew Kaser round out the second team for the SEC.

The SEC’s third Heisman finalist, AJ McCarron, headlines the third team offense at quarterback. A pair of Auburn Tigers are on the third team o-line in tackle Gregory Robinson and center Reese Dismukes, and the explosive Odell Beckham Jr. from LSU was selected as the all-purpose player for the group.

On the defensive side of the third team, Florida’s standout freshman Vernon Hargreaves III occupies one of the two cornerback spots following a stellar debut season in Gainesville.

In total, the SEC landed 18 players on this year’s AP team: six first-teamers, six second-teamers and six third-teamers. Full roster of the AP All-American squad included below.
