OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Ole Miss junior offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil has been arrested on charges of domestic violence after allegedly punching his stepfather, Lindsey Miller, in an incident that occurred Thursday night in Oxford.

Head football coach Hugh Freeze said Saturday in a statement that Tunsil turned himself in after defending his mother against his stepfather.

“Laremy realizes he could have handled it differently,” Freeze said in the statement. “But I am proud of him for standing up for his mother and protecting his family.”

The preseason All-American left tackle is expected to be one of the top offensive linemen in the nation this coming season.

UPDATE (8:30 p.m.) – Miller told The Clarion-Ledger Saturday that he denies Tunsil’s claims, saying Tunsil instigated the exchange and struck him six to seven times. Miller filed and received a restraining order against Tunsil Friday. Oxford police said the arrest report won’t be available until Monday.
