Report: Rick Stansbury Could Be Next Western Kentucky Head Coach

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WCBI) — A familiar name could be getting back in the head coaching game.

Long-time Mississippi State basketball coach Rick Stansbury is expected to meet with Western Kentucky officials this weekend and according to WBKO is expected to accept the job as head coach of the Hilltoppers.

According to the report from Jeff Goodman of ESPN, it is Stansbury’s job “if he wants it.”

Stansbury is a Kentucky native, growing up in Battletown, Kentucky before playing college basketball at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky.

Stansbury has spent the last two seasons as a member of Billy Kennedy’s coaching staff at Texas A&M. He’s well known as the all-time winningest coach in Mississippi State men’s basketball history.

Texas A&M was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night, falling to Oklahoma in the West Regional Semifinals, 77-63.
