SEC Football Players Receive Awards

(WCBI Sports) – Monday saw a number of awards handed down to Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama football players.

MSU junior Malcolm Johnson is named the College Football Performance Awards Tight End of the Week. Johnson caught four passes for 70 yards Thursday.

The Bulldogs’ Gabe Jackson received the SEC Offense Lineman of the Week award after his performance against Kentucky.

An Ole Miss and an Alabama player are named Jim Thorpe Award semifinalists, that’s the honor that goes to the best defensive back. The Rebels’ Cody Prewitt and Alabama’s Landon Collins are two of the 15 players.

A junior free safety from Bay Springs, Miss., Prewitt leads Ole Miss in interceptions (4), passes defended (9) and forced fumbles (2) and is second on the team in tackles (48). His four interceptions top all SEC players,

Collins is second on Alabama’s team in tackles with 34 with a team-best five pass breakups, a forced fumble and an 89-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Crimson Tide’s C.J. Mosley is named a Butkus Award semifinalist, that goes to the top linebacker.

Mosley, from Moblie, Ala., has a team-high 59 tackles on the season with 5.5 tackles for loss (10 yards), three pass breakups and four quarterback hurries.
