Starkville Academy Honored With Four Players on All-MAIS Basketball Teams

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — After completing the perfect season, Starkville Academy has earned even more honors for their accomplishments on the court this past season.

The Starkville Academy Lady Vols were State Champions once again in 2013 but also added four players that earned All-MAIS Honors.

The Lady Vols’ Maggie Proffitt was named 2012-2013 Girls Basketball Player of the Year by the MAIS. Proffitt averaged over 17 points per game and shot over 50% from the perimeter during the season.

The Volunteers also had three other players garner All-MAIS honors for their play during the perfect season.

Anna Lea Little was named to the All-MAIS First Team for the 2012-2013 season. Little finished the season shooting over 50% from 3-point range and averaging double figures in the point column.

Senior Tiffany Huddleston and junior Sallie Kate Richardson earned All-MAIS second team honors. Huddleston was the team’s starting point guard and led the Lady Vols in assists, while Richardson was the Volunteers’ starting center leading the team in rebounds with more than 6 boards per game.

Starkville Academy finished the 2012-2013 season with a record of 43-0, winning the Division, Class AAA, and Overall MAIS State Championships for the second year in a row. They go into the off-season holding a 52-game winning streak dating back to February of 2011.
