Starkville Beats New Mexico, Advances In Little League Regional

WACO, Tex. (WCBI Sports) – The combined Oktibbeha/Winston County All-Stars will continue to represent Mississippi in the Little League regional round.

The Starkville-based team beat Albuquerque, New Mexico 10-0 in five innings Friday in its first game of Southwest Region play in Waco, Texas. Mississippi will face Texas East, which is out of Pearland, Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in Waco.

Starkville, the first team from northeast Mississippi to reach this stage, is now three wins away from advancing to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

A two-run home run by Mississippi’s Keyshawn Lawrence started an eight-run fifth inning to extend the lead to ten. Starkville pitcher Nasir Brown struck out 12 of the 18 batters he faced. He and Tae Lucious combined for the shutout win.
