Starkville High School head football coach Jamie Mitchell was named the 2014 Mississippi High School Football All-Star team head coach. Mitchell was the All-Star team’s scout coach during last year’s game.

“I couldn’t be more blessed to be chosen to represent our great state,” said Mitchell via text message. “I will do everything in my power to do my best and represent Mississippi and the city of Starkville.”

The Mississippi All-Star team has lost the last six games to Alabama in the annual rivalry. This past year, Mississippi lost 21-17. While Coach Mitchell hopes to reverse the recent fortunes of the state, he remains humbled by the honor.

“This is as big of an honor as one coach could get from our great state,” Mitchell said. “Only one coach is chosen and I’m proud to be the head coach.”

Mitchell helped lead Starkville to the 5A State Championship back in 2012 and a State Title appearance the year before. His exceptional career also extends back to Itawamba AHS, where he was 40-9 with the Indians for 4 seasons before accepting the Starkville High job in 2010.
