STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi State will be searching for yet another wide out to join the starting rotation in 2016.

According to the Clarion-Ledger’s Mike Bonner, upcoming senior wide receiver Fred Brown was dismissed from the university due to violating the school’s student honor code.

Mississippi State confirmed on Thursday that Brown is no longer a student at the university.

Last weekend, Brown did not compete in Mississippi State’s scrimmage at Davis Wade Stadium. Dan Mullen addressed the issue saying that Brown was dealing with a “family matter”.

According to MSU policy, the Honor Code Council has the authority to remove a student from the university, even for first offenses.

Brown was coming into his fifth year with the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He finished third on the team last year with 412 yards receiving and three touchdowns. The loss of Brown leaves MSU without its top four receivers from last year during this spring. De’Runnya Wilson left for the NFL Draft + Fred Ross and Donald Gray are dealing with injuries.
