Video: Houston’s Denver McQuary Signs with Mississippi State Baseball

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — One of the top athletes in the state will making the short drive for college.

Senior Denver McQuary signed his letter of intent on Friday to continue his baseball career at Mississippi State. The 2-sport star also holds the MHSAA career interceptions record in high school football after his final year with the Hilltoppers.

The 5-tool player has been a stand-out for head coach Scott Gann since his sophomore season at the school.

As a junior, McQuary batted .405 with 14 doubles and 14 RBI’s. His .885 fielding percentage as an infielder was one of the best in the state. He was also one of the best in Mississippi as a junior with 37 stolen bases.

On the mound, McQuary can throw fire. His 2.72 ERA and 41 strikeouts as a junior made him one of the go-to arms in crunch time.
