TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Current Mississippi State and Ole Miss athletes joining forces is a rare sight.

Bulldogs and Rebels came together Saturday in Tupelo. Both softball teams hosted a clinic at Veterans Park to teach youngsters the game’s fundamentals. MSU leadership said both schools embraced the opportunity.

“For us to be able to give back to the community and teach the sport that both schools love, it’s such an honor and a privilege,” fifth-year MSU head coach Vann Stuedeman said.

Ole Miss players said they appreciated second-year head coach Mike Smith involving them in the event.

“To be able to bring Mississippi State and Ole Miss together is just great,” junior outfielder Miranda Strother said. “Being able to help these girls is just awesome.”

Members of both teams also signed autographs for those in attendance. It’s the first year the schools have hosted the event.

Mississippi State won the scrimmage that followed, 11-1. The season starts in February for both teams.
