STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s rare to see a Gatorade Player of the Year represented at a school in the area but it’s historic that one school had three Gatorade Players of the Year all in one sports season.

Starkville High School celebrated student athletes Tyson Carter, Patton Little and Kate Mattox on Friday at the school’s gymnasium for being named Gatorade Players of the Year.

Tyson was named Mississippi’s Boys Basketball Player of the year and Patton earned Mississippi’s Boys Cross Country Runner of the year.

More impressively was junior Kate Mattox who was named Mississippi’s Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year for the third consecutive year. She will look for the clean sweep as a senior.

Carter will begin his college career after graduation at Mississippi State and Little will be joining Southern Miss to run track following graduation at Starkville High School.
