WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Two Lowndes County men are accused of coming up with an elaborate story to get money from a Winston County resident.

Law enforcement say at least one of them have a history of doing the same thing in two states.

Edgar Poe Barfield, 49, is charged with false pretense, and David Baucom, 71, is charged with false pretense and misdemeanor possession of controlled substance.

Winston County Sheriff Jason Pugh says the duo conned one resident out of some money yesterday by giving a made up sob story.

The men returned to the alleged victim on Wednesday morning. The victim ran them off his property and followed the suspects while they were driving this car and called law enforcement.

Barfield and Baucom were arrested on Highway 25.

Barfield was arrested for a similar scheme in Millport, Alabama.

The duo also told investigators they had been in Pickens County, Alabama as well.
