Man Breaks Union County Deputy’s Nose After Headbutt

UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The man accused of putting a store clerk in a chokehold at a Union County store, breaks a deputy’s nose.

Sheriff Jimmy Edwards says Daniel Berry, 21, was being escorted to Justice Court on Thursday morning when started acting erratically.

As Berry approached a doorway, he headbutted the deputy.

Edwards says a cut on the deputy’s nose was glued back together.

Berry is charged with strong armed robbery.

Now, he’s also facing three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.

Edwards says Berry assaulted a jailer last night.

Berry is accused of going into West Union Grocery on Tuesday night, yelling and screaming.

Edwards believes the Ole Miss student put the clerk in a chokehold before taking 20 dollars.

Several customers tackled him before deputies arrived.

Berry was taken to the hospital for treatment today.

Law enforcement believe he took some type of drug.

He’s being held on a two hundred thousand dollar bond.
