Man Convicted Of Tupelo Murder Dies In Prison
PARCHMAN (WCBI) – The man convicted of a high profile Lee County murder has died in prison. The Mississippi Department of Corrections says 58 year old Randy Bevill died at a Bolivar County hospital Friday after he was transported there from the penitentiary.
The Pontotoc County native was convicted of the 1986 kidnapping and murder of Tupelo teen Amy Clayton. He was serving a life sentence after his original conviction and death sentence was reversed on appeal. Clayton’s death served as the catalyst for sweeping changes in victim’s rights in Mississippi when her mother Carolyn Clayton became a vocal advocate for closer communication between the legal system and victims.
An autopsy will determine Bevill’s cause of death.
