Man Killed in Three-Car Lowndes Crash

A three car fatal crash occurred in Lowndes County on Hwy 12 near Calvernon Rd. Sunday morning around 11:30 AM. A 2010 red Chevrolet Colorado driven by William Mixon, a 65 year old male from Sulligent AL was traveling west on Hwy 12. The pickup swerved into the oncoming lane and collided with two SUV’s traveling east. The first vehicle struck was a 2011 silver GMC Acadia driven by Cheryl Guyton, a 54 year old female with two passengers, Martha Irby, and Mary Downey, 80 years old from Starkville. The pickup was then struck by a east bound 2005 blue Honda Pilot driven by a 16 year old male with two passengers, a 9 year old male and Nancy Anderson a 38 year old female from Steens.

The pickup driver William Mixon was transported to BMH where he died due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The occupants of the Acadia were transported to BMH. Cheryl Guyton was treated for moderate injuries and both passengers were treated and released.

The Honda occupants were also transported to BMH. The 16 year old driver and 9 year old passenger were treated and released while Nancy Anderson suffered moderate injuries.

All of the occupants involved in the crash were restrained. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
