BRUCE, Miss. (WCBI)-There is a new Mayor in Bruce, and he is dedicated to finding new ways to improve the small town.
The Bruce Community has spoken. Earlier this Summer voters elected Rudy Pope as their mayor.
“Things turned out to be like I thought they would be. I was prepared for all the little problems and stuff we had. It’s been real good everybody has accepted me so I’m real proud of that,” says Mayor Rudy Pope.
Mayor Rudy Pope has only been in office a little over a month, but he says he’s looking forward to some positive changes for the town of Bruce.
“We’ve borrowed a million dollars to redo our sewer. We got some streets that need to be repaving. We have a beautification committee in place to start trying to improve Bruce. We’ve been cleaning up,” says Mayor Pope.
Mayor Pope says the best part of the job is getting to serve the people of Bruce.
“They are the most giving people that I’ve been around. If you’re in trouble in Bruce or you need something in Bruce they’re going to come to your aid and do benefits and all that kind of stuff to help you so the people of Bruce are great,” says Mayor Pope.
“So far he had been a great Mayor you can tell he is a good person with a good heart and wants to do what is good for the city of Bruce. I can see new things happens already. I can see our town starting to look a little better and more people are coming to shop,” says Rita Talford.
Over the past 20-years, city clerk, Rita Talford has seen mayors come and go. She believes Mayor Pope will leave a lasting impact on her town.
“He is always there and supportive every event that the city has so he is going to be a good supporter for Bruce and a good cheerleader for Bruce,” says Talford.
