The Clarion-Ledger reports that (http://on.thec-l.com/2gt11js ) Municipal Judge Dale Danks announced the new step Thursday.

Danks says the 2-day hold would give the police time to contact parents, not friends of the arrested person.

The newspaper reports the decision came in response to the Nov. 10 suicide of University of Mississippi student Rivers McGraw.

McGraw was arrested in Oxford and then three hours later was bonded out by his friends before shooting himself.

His mother was in the courtroom and says she had gone to the Madison mayor to push for such a change.
