(COLUMBUS, Ms) (WCBI) A new director has been chosen to head the United Way of Lowndes County.

Picked out of a field of about 55 applicants, a former Ohio native who retired from a career with the military is replacing Jan Ballard.

Patricia Brock has been going over paper work, files, meeting people, and getting ready for The Pacesetters Breakfast, the next United Way event to be held in July.

Brock thinks her former job as a cryptologic linguist with the Air Force will come in handy at her new post.

“It is an attribute I think that my initial training in life was in the military and a lot to do with just organizing and staying focus and just really being a strong advocate for those in need,” said Brock, Director.

Brock says she also want to work on ways of being more efficient, using United Way dollars more wisely.
