STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — The Winter Games may be over, but not for some special residents in North Mississippi.

Despite the gloomy weather, more than 100 people participated in Friday’s Special Olympics competition at Mississippi State University.

It’s an athletic event for both adults and kids with disabilities.

They competed in a number of events, including racing and tossing horse shoes.

“Our athletes want to participate just like regular athletes, and this is their chance to do that,” said organizer Deanie Forbes.

The top participants from Friday’s event will head to Biloxi Mother’s Day weekend for the state competition.
