The National Weather Service Doppler radar maintained by Columbus Air Force Base is currently down and is not scheduled to return to service until Friday, March 25th at the earliest.

The outage is a result of a major component failure.  Technicians have been working on the issue but replacement parts will not arrive until Friday.

Both private and public sector meteorologists will be relying on distant radar sites in Memphis, Jackson, MS, and Birmingham during the storm event that is forecast for Thursday, March 24th.  The ability to detect rotation below 10,000 feet will be reduced during this outage.
