Ole Miss Baseball Preps for Opening Day

Ole Miss has some high expectations for their baseball team in 2013 and Tanner Mathis knows it. The senior turned down an opportunity to play for the Houston Astros farm system for the chance to come back to school, get his degree, and play one more year for the Rebels.

“I thought my degree was more important (than pro baseball) and that is the main reason I came back so I could graduate” Mathis said.

Ace Pitcher Bobby Wahl is eager to get on the field this season with his teammates.

“I’m really excited to play with these guys. There is nothing better than having the same goal and we all just want to get to Omaha and play well” Wahl added.

“We’re obviously very excited with opening day just four days away. Any time you get to this point the team is just kind of chomping at the bit to get out there and play somebody with a different uniform” said Head Coach Mike Bianco.

Ole Miss opens Friday at home against TCU.
