OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-A Mississippi State University veterinary student walks away from a one car wreck on Oktoc Road in Oktibbeha County Tuesday (2-12-13) morning.

The wreck happened just after nine this morning about a mile from Oktibbeha County Memorial Gardens.

Motorist Mel Whitefield apparently swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel that dotted across the highway as she drove in the northbound lane.

Whitefield left the road in her black nissan landing in a ditch, but not before turning completely around facing south in the opposite direction.

It is not certain whether the victim was wearing a seat belt or not.

She appeared to have no life threatening injuries.
