Oxford Reserve Officers to Get Bulletproof Vests?

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI)-Reserve officers could soon be suiting up in bulletproof vests.

Oxford Police Chief Joey East and Oxford Alderman want their reserve officers to be as protected as their active duty officers.

Reserve officers assist the department during football games and other large events.

They are not armed but East said they can still face dangerous situations.

The Board of Aldermen on Tuesday instructed East to work up cost estimates on providing vests for the 24 reserve officers.

East said the average cost for vests is $500.
