TUPELO, Miss. (AP) – A man charged with death of a passenger in his vehicle during a high speed chase in 2011 has pleaded guilty.

Michael Terry Allen entered a plea Thursday to the charge of felony fleeing resulting in death in Lee County Circuit Court. Allen was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Allen was arrested on Aug. 6, 2011 following a pursuit by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Authorities say Allen was driving a vehicle when he ran from a traffic checkpoint in Tupelo.

A trooper followed Allen down Mississippi Highway 178 and the chase turned onto Mississippi Highway 371 in Mooreville.

Authorities say Jeffrey Trent Martin jumped from the vehicle during the chase and was killed.
