JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – A bill that could boost enrollment at charter schools and allow students to cross district lines heads now on to the governor’s desk.

Mississippi’s state Senate passed an amended version of Senate Bill 2161 by a narrow margin.

If Governor Bryant signs this bill, the legislation would allow parents with students in school districts rated C, D, or F to move their children to a charter school, even if that school lies in another district.

The per-child funding would also follow that student to their new school.

The bill passed in the Senate 24-21, and now heads to Bryant’s desk for him to sign or veto.
