Pontotoc Nurse Charged With Stealing From Client

A woman working as a private sitter in Pontotoc has been arrested and charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

Sherry Berry, 35, of Pontotoc turned herself into investigators with the Attorney General’s Office/Medicaid Fraud Control Unit Monday.

Berry and her attorney met the investigators at the Lee County jail after being indicted by a Lee County Grand Jury on one count of felonious use of a credit card, or credit card number, with intent to defraud.

The indictment alleges that Berry used, without permission, the credit card of an elderly individual for whom she served as a private sitter mounting up approximately $3,500 in charges.

Bond was set at $5,000, If convicted, Berry faces up to three years in prison.

The case is being investigated by Joe Sanderson and will be prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorney General Sue Perry of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
