UPDATE: Pratts-Friendship Shooting

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Prentiss County man is being held $1 million bond after police say he shot into a home late Friday night, critically wounding a woman.

Michael Joe Martin, 45, is charged with aggravated assault, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says deputies were called to a home on Highway 370 around 11:00 Friday night to investigate a shooting. When they got there, they found a woman had been shot with a high powered rifle.  The victim was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center, where she is in critical condition. Martin was arrested a short time later at a house in Booneville.  The suspected weapon used in the shooting was found at Martin’s house.

Authorities are searching for a motive. “We know that they were acquaintances we know at one point in time the suspect and victim were in some type of dating relationship we don’t know for sure if that is what caused it or not but we know this individual drove up to where this lady was at inside the home fired two rounds into the house, struck her once,” Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson.

Martin was arrested without incident.

One person is behind bars after a woman was shot late Friday night.

Authorities say, the call came in around 11:30p.m. of a woman suffering from two gunshot wounds in the Pratts-Friendship Community.

After a short search police have a white male in custody. He was picked up in Prentiss County shortly before 1a.m.

The female victim arrived to Tupelo Medical Center by Care Flight and had to be rushed into surgery.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says, the female victim was shot twice.

The male suspect responsible for the shooting has been taken into custody and authorities say they plan on charging him with aggravated assault, two charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The female victim has been through at least one surgery and was in critical condition as of Saturday evening.

If her condition changes other charges will be filed.
