President’s Proposed Budget Targets Familiar Programs In Region

WASHINGTON , DC ( WCBI) – President Donald Trump’s budget outline is out and it could have a direct impact on Mississippi and Alabama.

The President is proposing the elimination of programs which Mississippi city and county governments rely.   The Appalachian Regional Commission and its $119 million dollar budget would be eliminated.  The A-R-C supplies grants for projects in Alcorn, Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, Itawamba, Kemper, Lee, Lowndes, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union, Webster, Winston, and Yalobusha in Mississippi as well as Fayette, Lamar, Pickens and Marion in Alabama.   The Essential Air Service program, which helps subsidize air service in Tupelo would be eliminated. Community Development Block Grants are also among the programs the President wants to cut.  Funding to support National Wildlife Refuges such as the Sam D Hamilton Noxubee Refuge are also targeted for elimination.
