LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Two of the region’s most important institutions strengthen their partnership to benefit the community.

Col. Jim Sears, the commander at Columbus Air Force Base, and his wife Vickie, hosted the commander’s annual holiday open house at their home on the base today.

The event was the first official community greeting for Sears and his family since he took over the command six months ago.

And today’s event featured food prepared by students in the nationally recognized culinary arts program at Mississippi University for Women.

It marked the first time MUW’s program has catered an event at the base. Sears and MUW administrators say they hope it is another step in expanding education opportunities between the two institutions.
