Report: University of Florida Expected to Name Scott Stricklin its New Athletic Director

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi State will be in the market for a new athletic director after Tuesday.

According to the USA Today’s Dan Wolken, the University of Florida is expected to name Mississippi State A.D. Scott Stricklin as the school’s new athletic director. According to Wolken, Stricklin is in Gainesville on Monday finalizing his new deal.

The news of Florida courting Stricklin broke last week as the Clarion-Ledger reported that the Gators were offering in upwards of $1.4 million to take the position.

Florida’s currently athletic director, Jeremy Foley, is retiring on October 1st.

Scott Stricklin became Mississippi State’s 16th director of athletics on May 7, 2010 and has helped revolutionize the school from a facilities and competition standpoint in the Southeastern Conference.

A 1992 Mississippi State graduate, Stricklin has directed nearly $140 million in investments to facilities, coaches and increases in other athletic endeavors. He has helped lead the school into renovating Davis Wade Stadium, Humphrey Coliseum and Dudy Noble Field over the past four years.

Stricklin was named Under Armour’s 2016 Athletics Director of the Year and has overseen a media relations department that has won numerous national awards.

Stricklin, 45, is married to the former Anne Howell, the youngest daughter of Basketball Hall of Fame member Bailey Howell. The couple has two daughters, Abby and Sophie.
