Saturday Morning Stabbing Leaves One Dead

 

COLUMBUS (CPD RELEASE) On Saturday, March 11th at approximately 01:00 a.m., Columbus Police Officers were dispatched to 140 Lake Norris Road to a disturbance. When officers arrived, they found the homeowner had been in a physical altercation with an intruder which led to the intruder being stabbed.

 

The homeowner and his family was asleep when they heard a knock on the front door. The unknown person went from the front door to the side door of the house and entered the home without permission. The homeowner confronted the intruder and a physical altercation ensued which led to the stabbing of the intruder with a knife. The suspect was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 2:17 a.m. The homeowner did not know the 21-year-old intruder nor why he would have came into his home.

A similar call of a unwanted guest occurred just minutes prior to this call at another Lake Norris address which stated the same intruder came into their home without permission. The intruder left when confronted.

Columbus Police Investigators are investigating this incident. The case will be presented to a Lowndes County Grand Jury for consideration, but no charges will be filed at this time.

The identity of the 21-year-old intruder will be released by Greg Merchant of the Lowndes County Coroner’s Office.
