STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Students at Mississippi State lend a helping hand to the college kids of tomorrow.

Americorps “Volunteers in Service to America” hosted a school supply drive in honor Dr. Martin Luther King.

They collected pencils, crayons, tissues notebooks and more to be donated to schools in Starkville and Oktibbeha County. Friday (1-17)  afternoon they sorted through everything.

Volunteer Heather Black says,  ” Martin Luther King, his big idea was to have a dream, and he really fought for education, and so when we were coming up with an idea to partner with the University of Mississippi and find some kind of fundraising that we could do, this was kind of an obvious one for us.”

A similar effort is underway at Ole Miss.
