Video: SDI Paint Line Grand Opening

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Steel Dynamics officially opens its paint line, with more than 9,000 options.

Groundbreaking for the $100 million facility was January 2016. An official groundbreaking was held Wednesday afternoon.

The painted steel will be used for everything from appliances to garage doors to lighting fixtures.

Customers will be able to choose from thousands of color options.

The building is 275,000 square feet and is projected to be paid for in two years.

SDI says the first painted coil left the paint line this past December.

“SDI did the perfect thing. When markets were slow they expanded. And now that markets are picking up, home buyers are picking up, appliances, products that they make…air conditioners are on higher demand now that the economy is picking up, they are poised and ready to grow,” said (R) Governor Phil Bryant.

About 45 people work at SDI’s new paint line.
