Semi Accident Slowing Traffic On I-22

Tupelo, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is closing the left lane of the Interstate 22 bridge over Nita Lake Road, between Mississippi 25 N and Mississippi 23, in Itawamba County.

On Friday morning, an 18-wheeler traveling west veered off the road, ran through the guardrail and down the Interstate 22 embankment toward Nita Lake Road. The semi struck and damaged two of the pilings on the eastbound Interstate 22 bridge over Nita Lake Road.

MDOT crews have closed the left lane of the Interstate 22 eastbound bridge in order to assess the damage and make the needed repairs. The lane will remain closed until the repairs have been completed.

Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution when approaching and traveling through this area. Slow down, avoid driving distracted and watch for crews working on and near the roadway.
