VERNON, AL. (WCBI) — Lamar County, Alabama is mourning the death of a former probate judge and long-time businessman.

Services for William Henry Allen were Monday in Vernon. He would have been 84 Wednesday.

Allen served as probate judge from 1983 to 1989. He was a former vice president at the Bank of Vernon, insurance agent and business owner.

The Korean War veteran spent 30 years in the National Guard and Army Reserves before retiring as a captain. He was a long-time member of the Vernon First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, a brother and three sons.
