Sherman Police Officer Rescues Man Trapped In Vehicle

SHERMAN, Miss. (WCBI) – The victim of a fiery crash is safe thanks to a heroic rescue from a police officer.

Just after 6:00 pm Sunday evening, Sherman Police responded to a call of a two-vehicle wreck on Highway 178 in Lee County, near the Pontotoc County line.

A van was attempting to pull into a convenience store, and turned into the path of an oncoming SUV.

After the collision, the van caught fire next to the SUV.

The driver of the van was able to get out, but the SUV’s doors were jammed, and the driver of that vehicle was injured and couldn’t escape.

A Sherman police officer managed to get the vehicle’s doors open and pulled the driver out and carried him to safety, away from the burning vehicle.

The Sherman Fire Department arrived shortly after and put out the blaze.

The driver of the van suffered minor injuries.

The SUV’s driver was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center by ambulance with unknown injuries.

Both were wearing seat belts.
