Video: Six Law Enforcement Officers On Leave After High Speed Pursuit, Shooting

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – At least six law enforcement officers are on paid administrative leave after a deadly high speed chase and shootout in Lowndes County.

The chase started near Mathiston when a police officer tried to pull over Pryor Spencer Bailey the fourth on suspicion of DUI.

Investigators say Bailey sped away and the pursuit went into Lowndes County, ending on Highway 82 about three miles from the state line.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation tells WCBI Bailey got out of the vehicle and gunfire erupted.

A Lowndes County deputy was shot in the leg and the Starkville suspect died at the scene.

There were reports Bailey fired a shot at law enforcement. MBI could not confirm that report.

Multiple weapons were found in or near Bailey’s vehicle, including handguns and long guns.

One Webster County deputy, two Lowndes County deputies, and three state troopers are all on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

That is standard procedure.

Lowndes County is providing counseling for deputies who need someone to talk with.
