Small Businesses Benefit From Initiative

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A local small business receives help today through a Public Service Commission initiative.

Commissioner Brandon Presley is on hand Tuesday at Ann’s Dairy Barn in Columbus. Atmos Energy waived the business’ deposit and gave them a 25 percent discount on first-year payments.

The aid program works with the state’s largest investor-owned utilities to pass savings down to small businesses.

Presley’s office reports that small businesses in Mississippi have saved over 1.5 million dollars in less than five years.

“Right now, 2,800-plus businesses have benefited,” he said. “It’s aimed at helping those main street small business owners who don’t get bailed out like wall street, who don’t get tax exemptions like the big corporations.”

Additionally, Atmos Energy gave Vanelli’s Bistro in Tupelo a rebate check of $4,300 Tuesday through the incentive program.
