West Point, Miss.[WCBI]-Mississippi State Auditor Stacey Pickering gave West Point Rotary Club Members an update on his office’s monitoring of Education and economic development audits and compliance’s with the law.
According to Pickering his office is actively going after fraud committed by public servants. Several indictments in the last couple of weeks is proof of that. Public officials pleaded or were found guilty by a jury of their peers.
“We were in federal court with a contractor for a school district where the superintendent pled guilty over a year ago. She was found guilty this week. So those are issues that we are facing continually,” said Pickering.
In keeping state agencies in compliance with the law, Pickering wants business and economic leaders to know that Mississippi is one of the top five states that enforce corruption laws.
