NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – Area law enforcement have a warning for those who drink and drive this Christmas holiday.

Representatives from the Highway Patrol, area sheriff and police departments were on hand for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” lunch in New Albany.

Starting Friday, through the New Year, law enforcement agencies will beef up their patrols in an effort to catch those who drink and drive.

Authorities say alcohol related crashes impact many people.

“For every fatality you have you are going to have, one parent, one son, one aunt, one grandchild, one grandmother that somebody is never going to see again. We just want people to think about what they’re doing and try and prevent those losses.”

Chief Spellins points out that a first offense DUI carries steep fines, loss of your drivers license and jail time.
