WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – State Representative David Gibbs is laid to rest in his Hometown of West Point.
Services were held Saturday at the Third Mount Olive Baptist Church

Family, friends and several legislators were in attendance.
Representative Gibbs served in the House since 1993 and represented District 36, which include parts of Clay, Lowndes and Monroe Counties.

He passed away last Sunday at North East Mississippi Medical Center. Gibbs leaves behind a wife, Annie Gibbs and his only son Karl Gibbs.

Governor Phil Bryant could set a special election next week to fill the District 36 state House seat left open. If so the special election would likely be in early March
