Student Athlete of the Week — Hunter Sheffield, Itawamba AHS

FULTON, Miss. (WCBI) – Student Athlete of the Week

“I love football. I love this team. I’d do anything for them,” says Hunter Sheffield.

Sheffield plays free safety for the Itawamba Agricultural High School Indians. He’s one of the team’s most dominant defensive players.

Sheffield says he’s learned how to balance school work, keeping his grades up and being a football player.

“It’s always school work first. Growing up my mama always told me school work comes first so, even after football practice I go home and study. Make sure I keep up the grades because if I don’t have good grades I can’t play,” says Sheffield.

Head Coach Toby Collums says what Sheffield contributes to the team is invaluable. He’s like the quarterback of the defense and a leader off the field.

“The difference I think is what he does for us in the locker room. What people don’t realized is that’s a key factor in any football team. When a football team starts out 1 and 4 on the season and to be able to turn it around the way we have, people like Hunter Sheffield have a lot to do with that,” says Collums.

Itawamba will play its next non-conference game at home this Friday at 7pm.
