JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The Mississippi Supreme Court denied a motion Thursday to set an execution date for death row inmate Michelle Byrom.

State Attorney General Jim Hood had asked the court to set Byrom’s execution for Thursday in a case involving the murder of her husband and to order execution on Friday for Charles Crawford in a rape-murder case. The court did not issue an order in the Crawford case on Thursday.

But it is increasingly unlikely he will face execution Friday. Corrections officials say no preparations were being made for an execution at the Parchman state penitentiary.

Both inmates are seeking the Supreme Court’s permission to file new appeals.
