TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Five year old Katie Mae Knight was overwhelmed when she and her family arrived at Tupelo Christian Preparatory School.

Katie Mae was princess for a day. Since birth, she has battled a rare disease known as cloacal estrophy. That has led to bouts with spina bifida, and also caused her to have a left club foot. But on this day, Katie Mae would be pampered, beginning with a royal dress ,a manicure and polish.

She likes the color pink so we painted her nails hot pink,” said TCPS Senior Sarah Williams.

From there, TCPS Senior and baseball player Drew Carter escorted her into a large assembly, where the young princess, whose favorite movie is “Lion King” was presented with presents, then she learned her wish to go to Disneyworld had been granted.

The Make A Wish Foundation is coordinating the trip for Katie Mae and her family. But it was paid for through hard work of TCPS students. They decided late last year to do something special for Katie Mae and have been raising money ever since. They recently reached their goal of 5 thousand dollars. Sophomore Hannah Henry spearheaded the effort.

I’ve been humbled to be a part of this and to see how families go through a lot and to see how blessed I am and this, I have been impressed with our school and how everyone has gotten involved,” Henry said.

The dream trip is something Katie Mae has talked about for a long time.

All she’s done is ask, can we go to Disney World, when can we go to Disney World, I want to go to Disney World. She graduated preschool on Monday night and they did a little questionnaire for all preschoolers and at the bottom it asks, if I had a million dollars I would, and Katie Mae put, go to Disney World, ” said her mother, Jessie Knight.

Now, Katie Mae and her entire family will soon get to see Mufassa and all the Disney characters in person, thanks to students who want to make a difference.

It shows we have a heart for everyone, to reach out to the community and try to help everyone we can and love them and try to show Christ’s love to everyone,” said TCPS Senior Drew Carter.
