ABERDEEN, Miss. – (WCBI) He has served on the bench for three decades, but now he is passing the gavel to his successor.

Judge Sharion Aycock is now the Chief Judge of the Northern District.

Judge Aycock is taking over for Judge Michael Mills, who retired. A Gavel Passing Ceremony was held Monday afternoon at Aberdeen Federal Court.

Aycock makes history again by becoming the first female to become a Chief Judge in Mississippi. She also left her mark on the Magnolia State when she became the first female to serve as the Article III judge.

Judge Mills served as a federal judge for 37 years.
