Officer Brandon Garrett worked as a detective in a building which was contaminated with mold. Garrett informed the city about his mold related illnesses and according to his lawsuit that’s why the city abandoned the Court Street building and moved to the old airport. Garret claims the city moved contaminated furniture and records to the new location and his illness continued. The 12 year veteran asked to be transferred to the training academy to avoid the exposure but instead was assigned to the patrol division. The suit says he suffered a cut in pay and was humiliated because he had to report to an officer with a lower rank. Garret claims the city allowed two other detectives with mold illnesses to keep their rank and work from a non contaminated building. He says is getting false write ups from his superiors because he complained about the mold and his demotion. The lawsuit wants a jury to determine the damages in the case and for the plaintiff to be assigned to a building without mold.
