Tupelo Police Officer Fires At Suspect

 

TUPELO, Miss (WCBI) – Tupelo Police officer and a K9 are injured, and a suspect is shot after a traffic stop turns violent Saturday evening.

Officials tell WCBI’s Allie Martin It was around 10 Saturday night, when a Tupelo police officer d to stop someone for a traffic violation.

The driver ran from the car, and a police K9 tracked the suspect to a house in the 900 block of Harrison Street.

Authorities say the suspect was hiding under a house, and attacked an officer as he approached the home.

A fight broke out and the officer was forced to shoot the suspect. The officer received cuts and bruises, and the K9 was also injured.

The suspect was taken to NMMC and his condition has not been released. We will have more information as it becomes available.

This is the second weekend a Tupelo officer was forced to shoot a suspect.  A Baldwyn murder suspect was killed after a high speed chase through the city ended at a Tupelo apartment complex with that suspect threatening officers
