TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)-Mayor Jack Reed’s announcement that he was not running for another term came as a shock to many in Tupelo. Several residents are speaking out about Reed’s announcement.

WCBI went inside The Mall at Barnes Crossing in Tupelo. Majority of people say Reed has done a pretty good job during his term as Tupelo’s mayor.

Tiffany Harris says she hates to see him go.

“I’m very shocked about it cause he’s done a lot of good things for Tupelo and I think he’s been one of the best Mayor’s that we’ve had in a while,” says Harris.

“I worked for Reed’s Manufacturing company for 17 years and I never had a problem with the Reeds. They’re always been fair people, but I respect his decision if that’s what he wants to do, says Annis Jenkins.

Mayor Reed says he intends to run these last 8 months of his term with everything he’s got–achieving the goals of making Tupelo a better place to live.

When asked what residents would like to see Tupelo’s next mayor accomplish, many of them say they want the next administration to continue putting an emphasis on education as well as expanding businesses and tourism in the town.
