Booneville Animal Shelter Hosts Fundraiser

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s a record that it intends to keep.

Since taking over the Booneville animal pound in March, the Booneville Halfway Home Animal Shelter has never had to euthanize any animal brought here by residents or animal control.

In fact, the shelter has adopted more than 200 dogs and more than 70 cats and has reunited 45 pets with their owners.

Volunteer Director Sheila Ruff says it has taken a great deal of work to get the pets adopted.

“The main thing is I half to stay ahead of the animal control officer,” Ruff explains. “I have to try to adopt them out faster than he can bring them in. And sometimes it’s been pretty close and pretty scary.”

And on Saturday night, the Prentiss County Agri Center will host Paws for a Music Break, the major fundraising event for the Booneville Halfway Home Animal Shelter, featuring a variety of music.

Ruff says they have completed all the necessary paperwork to establish itself as the city’s only no-kill shelter.
